Educator • Facilitator • Speaker • Advocate • Community Builder
Sandra has taught for over 30 years, specializing in inclusive education and supporting diverse learners in the regular classroom. Her teaching has included work with English Language Learners and Music, alongside students with a wide range of learning needs. She ran a program called Language Development through the Arts, and the arts have continued to be an important component in her thinking and practice. With postgraduate work focused on inclusive education, she has also worked to form and mentor student teachers, sharing her passion for inclusive, whole-person education.
A lifelong learner herself, she loves integrating calling, faith, and the arts into meaningful learning experiences.
Sandra mainly taught in a largely Indo-Canadian community in Vancouver, where she fell in love with the culture and the people. Having worked in extensive multicultural settings, she has taught non-English-speaking grandmothers to read and empowered students and families to find their voices. Sandra is passionate about inclusion and belonging, encouraging others to see in new ways and imagine what’s possible.
Sandra has successfully integrated some of the most challenging students and is highly respected by students, their families, colleagues, and administration. She is known for her strong and caring leadership and is respected for her dedication to inclusion and excellence in teaching. Besides her teaching degree and postgraduate work, Sandra has engaged in extensive professional development in the areas of inclusive education, communication, literacy, and behavioural support. Her training has included approaches for enhancing communication through visuals, supporting students with complex language and learning needs, developing individualized education plans, promoting violence prevention and social-emotional growth, supporting struggling readers, and understanding both giftedness and learning disabilities. She has also deepened her expertise in English as a Second Language instruction, functional behavioural analysis, and parent support—reflecting her lifelong commitment to learning and helping every student thrive. Throughout her career, Sandra has led numerous musicals and multicultural events in schools, celebrating diversity and building community through the arts. An educational advocate, she is deeply committed to fostering inclusion and belonging for all learners.
Sandra has facilitated many small groups over the years, in both her professional and community life, through Alpha, Sanctuary Mental Health Ministries, Palliative Care Training, and Hospice—to name a few. She has also served as the FASD Resource Coordinator for the Province of New Brunswick. In addition, she is a retreat planner, retreat speaker, public speaker, and accompanier, meeting with individuals and supporting them in their spiritual journeys.
Sandra deeply treasures her family, finding joy in each one of them and in nurturing spaces of welcome and belonging for others.
