Meet Tiana
Young Leader • Presenter • Actor • Inclusion Advocate • Editor
Tiana Kirkegaard is a young leader who completed a two-year leadership course with Leading Change, L’Arche Canada. With a heart for community, she finds joy in being with others and in the ideas of inclusion and belonging. Tiana has Down Syndrome and shares her lived experience as a person with a disability to help others see beauty and value in every person.
She completed the Communication Plus program at the Down Syndrome Resource Foundation.
A reflective communicator and advocate, she finds joy in using the written word and her voice to encourage others and help build communities where everyone belongs.
Tiana is an expressive artist, actor, dancer, and rhythmic gymnast who loves the Lord and is passionate about helping people discover their belovedness. As a devotional writer, she finds joy in creating and sharing prayers that offer encouragement and hope. She also serves as an editor with the Self-Advocates Network, where she helps shape messages that lift the voices of people with developmental disabilities.
A graduate of South Delta Secondary School, Tiana received the Sun Devils All-Around Student Award (2020), the George Klukas Achievement Award(2024), and Honour Roll recognition. A winner of five gold medals at the Special Olympics National Games in 2018, she has worked as an emcee and presenter for the Health and Well-Being in Developmental Disabilities Conference and the Down Syndrome Film Festival, and as a panel member for the Down Syndrome BC Summit.
She has acted for L’Arche Canada in several projects, appeared in Color My World With Love, Chicken, and King Arthur’s Knight, and did a virtual tour for the Down Syndrome Resource Foundation. Her creativity and confidence continue to grow through performance, storytelling, and collaboration.
Tiana has volunteered with L’Arche communities in Canada and India, Tsawwassen United Church, and Sarah’s Covenant Home in India. Through these experiences, she has deepened her passion for inclusion, belonging, and faith in action.
Tiana continues to learn through her ongoing studies, her work as an editor, her community involvement, and her creative pursuits. Her gentle heart, thoughtfulness, and care shine through—occasionally surprising those around her with a delightful spontaneity that reflects her joyful spirit and love for life.
